Rappahannock Rugby Club vs. Quantico - 9/24/2005

Courtesy of Pete Murray, Secretary, Rappahannock Rugby Club

Well we ran into a buzz saw last Saturday by the name of Quantico. We hung with them through the first half, 5-15 (try by Cisco). The second half was another story as they cruised to six more tries for a final of 5-55. But we can take some lessons from this loss: Quantico played well as a team--always there in support; they were very fit, something which at this level can make all the difference; and they were turned on and ready to go as soon as they arrived at the pitch, there was much grab ass going on over there. One last thing to remember is that Quantico has made the playoffs 3 years running and that they've lost 1 league match in the last 18 league matches (including this year). That being said, we still have a lot of room for improvement, so everyone NEEDS to be at practice. We can't come together as a team if we don't practice together.

Upsides: We played them hard in the first half, and showed we can hang with them. We were finally attacking on defense, and we disrupted their game throughout the first half.

Downsides: Fitness, fitness, fitness. It makes a huge difference in this game. We were worn out halfway through the second half, and it showed. This game could have been a LOT closer if we were fit enough to play for 80 minutes.

Bonus: Congratulations to our Man of the Match, Cisco Jimenez!

Next Match
Our next match is against West Potomac. We won against their B-side in the Spring, but not by enough to be cocky. They have a big pack, and their backs aren't that small either. We're going to have to try to out hustle them, and we'll need to control the ball and always run in support to pull this one out.

I haven't received any pictures of this past week's match, so I don't know if we'll have any...
