Rappahannock Rugby Club vs. Western Suburbs - 10/8/2005

Courtesy of Pete Murray, Secretary, Rappahannock Rugby Club

Well it was a hard fought match for us on Saturday. We weren't able to generate much offense outside of Cisco's counters and a few runs by Rob. They won a majority of the rucks but we did stymie quite a few of their mauls. Our lineouts weren't working well either. We had a few chances inside their 22 but we managed to either lose a crucial ruck or knock the ball onsides. Our defense was stout, only allowing a few breaks as they would try to overload our backline and we were able to make tackles around the fringes of the ruck even if it took two guys. There is no point in dwelling on this loss, let's turn our attention to this weekend's match and finishing with a winning record.

Positives: Cisco's counters, tackling, stopping the maul (turning rucks into mauls).

Negatives: Inability to recongize to where we overmatched them, lineouts, rucking.

Bonus: Congratulations to our Man of the Match, Cisco Jimenez!

Next Match:
We play USUHS (Uniformed Services University of Health Services--I think) in Bethesda, MD. The match is scheduled to start at 11:30 am so I am guessing we will want to leave town by 8:00 am at the latest from the Wawa Lot. Just in case the times change, keep an eye on the message board, and look there for directions.

Pictures, courtesy of Ginny Bach, will be coming soon.
